Daniel Craig stepped down as James Bond after the release of "007: No Time to Die" in 2021, and the 007 series producers have been looking for his successor since last summer. In August last year, foreign media reported that the producers were looking for a younger 007 actor, who was around 30 years old and taller than 1.78 meters.
Yet casting directors recently explained why a 20-something 007 wouldn't work.
In an interview with RadioTimes, casting director Debbie McWilliams Debbie McWilliams said the age limit for the role of James Bond began in 2006 when actors in their 20s auditioned for Casino Royale, including 22-year-old Henry Cavill. Both she and director Martin Campbell felt that these actors of similar age couldn't get the part because they were too young.
"We do look at a lot of young actors, but I don't think they have that sense of majesty, they don't have that experience, they don't have the mental maturity to take on the role. Not only do they have to play the role, but they also have a big responsibility. So we Abandoning the attempt, reback to the beginning."
Craig, who was 38 at the time, was awarded the leading role in Casino Royale, and has since played James Bond for 15 years.
Before the release of "007: No Time to Die", the actors who participated in the 007 audition included Idris Elba (50 years old), Reggie-Jean Page (34 years old) from "Bride's Covenant", Tom Hardy (45), Sam Heuan (42) and "Bullet Train" Alan Taylor-Johnson (32), among others. the
"007" series film producer Michael G. Wilson also said "We have tried to study young people in the past. But trying to visualize it doesn't work. Remember, Bond is already middle-aged. He has Some experience. He's a guy who's been in combat, so to speak. He's been in dangerous places. He's not some kid out of high school, you can bring him in, start working. That's why it works for the 30s people."
