There are only two episodes left in the first season of HBO's The Last of Us. Those who played the first game know there's a lot going on in these two episodes. Those who've played the game will also know that its ending is still divided to this day, and according to Bella Ramsey, after the TV series' finale airs, the same split will emerge.

"It's going to divide people hugely," Ramsey toldmedia when discussing the series' finale.

At the end of the first part, Ellie and Joel finally find what they've been looking for since they met. A hospital run by Firefly, where doctors will use Ellie's immunity to potentially create a vaccine to protect people from the fungus, the pair arrive unconscious, surrounded by some unconscious Firefly attacked to see who they were.

When Joel wakes up, he's lying in a hospital bed, and Marlene tells him what the doctors plan to do to Ellie, revealing that the vaccine they're trying to create will kill her. This leads Joel to go on a rampage in the hospital, killing everyone in sight and rescuing Ellie. After Joel successfully rescued Ellie, who recovered in the backseat of the car, he lied to her that they couldn't use her to make a vaccine, so they were allowed to leave.

Joel's decision not to tell Ellie the truth has divided fans to this day, nearly a decade after the game's release. Some believe that Joel should tell Ellie the truth and let her decide for herself, while others believe that he was absolutely right to save Ellie and keep the truth from her. There will be more disagreements in season two. Pedro Pascal hopes that filming for the next season will begin before the end of 2023.
