Hollywood Comes to a Halt as Actors' Union Goes on Strike
2023-07-14
According to Sina Entertainment, the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) and the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (AFTRA) have announced their decision to go on strike after failing to reach an agreement with industry producers.
On the morning of the 13th, the union's committee, consisting of 160,000 members, will officially approve the strike. During the strike, actors who are members of the guild are prohibited from filming any movies or TV shows, participating in film premieres and promotional interviews, and promoting any film projects at events like the San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC).
This marks the first actor strike in nearly 40 years and the first joint strike of actors and writers in 63 years, effectively bringing Hollywood to a halt.
