《Barbie》Falls Short of 《The Little Mermaid》: Box Office Disappoints

Following Disney's live-action film 《The Little Mermaid》, Warner Bros. released the live-action film 《Barbie》 featuring the iconic doll, which officially premiered in mainland China today.

According to data from Maoyan Professional Edition, the film 《Barbie》 only earned 3.947 million yuan on its first day at the box office, with a screening rate of only 1.9%. In comparison, 《The Little Mermaid》 had a 10% screening rate on its opening day, potentially putting 《Barbie》's box office in mainland China at a disadvantage.

《Barbie》 is directed by Greta Gerwig (《Little Women》《Lady Bird》) and written by her husband Noah Baumbach (《Marriage Story》). Margot Robbie plays Barbie, Ryan Gosling portrays Barbie's boyfriend Ken, and Emma Mackey, Dua Lipa, Kate McKinnon, Alexandra Shipp, and Issa Rae also star as different versions of Barbie, while Liu Simu, Shu Qi, Kingsley Ben-Adir, and Michael Cera portray Ken (basically, there are many versions of Barbie and Ken).
