Bona Film and TSG Entertainment Reach Agreement: Investment in Avatar 3, Deadpool 3, and More

According to TNABO North American Box Office News, China's Bona Film and the renowned Hollywood production company, TSG Entertainment, have finalized a collaboration agreement. The deal includes investments in future Hollywood films, such as "Avatar 3" and "Deadpool 3."

This agreement was signed on December 31, 2023, with the scale and terms undisclosed. This isn't the first collaboration between these two companies. Bona had previously invested $235 million in partnership with TSG, participating in films like "The Martian Rescue," "Independence Day 2," "The King of Circus," "Planet of the Apes 3," and "Alien: Covenant." Such investment agreements are often made for risk management. While financiers may not intervene in the creative process, they have the opportunity to reap substantial profits from the projects.

The film industry collaborations between China and the United States underwent significant changes after the start of the trade and tech wars in 2018. Bona is one of the few local companies to have signed cooperation agreements with foreign companies, acting as a supplier for many commercial patriotic films or so-called "main theme" films. However, even this company couldn't avoid highly dramatic moments: its IPO plans were once hindered, and the movie "Hollywood Past" was withdrawn due to a complaint from Bruce Lee's daughter, Shannon Lee.

Yudong, in a statement, expressed, "We are delighted to maintain the eight-year-long partnership with TSG. Through further collaboration, Bona will become a new participant in the 'Avatar' and 'Deadpool' series through TSG, and we will continue our investments in series like 'Planet of the Apes,' 'Alien,' and more exciting upcoming films."
