Disney's Live-Action Remake 'The Little Mermaid' Surpasses $500 Million at the Global Box Office

'The Little Mermaid,' the live-action film, has achieved a box office gross of $499.3 million worldwide as of Sunday, and it is expected to officially cross the $500 million mark on Monday. It becomes the fifth Hollywood film to reach this milestone in 2019, following 'Super Mario,' 'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3,' 'Fast & Furious 10,' and 'Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.'

In North America, the film has earned a total of $270.2 million in its 31-day theatrical run, currently ranking fourth this year. It is projected to surpass the $300 million mark next month. Overseas, it has accumulated $229.1 million, with leading markets including the United Kingdom ($29.5 million), Mexico, Brazil, Japan, Italy, and Australia ($12.7 million).

The film has already surpassed the final box office gross of 'Maleficent: Mistress of Evil' ($491 million), and it is expected to surpass 'Cinderella' ($543 million) next month. The film's final global box office is projected to exceed $560 million, with its ability to challenge the $600 million mark depending on the decline rate over the next two weeks.

In the realm of Disney's live-action remakes, this performance ranks as average, falling short of 'Beauty and the Beast' ($1.264 billion), 'Aladdin' ($1.051 billion), and 'Alice in Wonderland' ($1.025 billion). However, it is also the best-performing Disney live-action film since 'The Lion King' in 2019.
