According to a report by "Rolling Stone," the American cable television network HBO once hired troll farms and utilized fake accounts to counter negative reviews on social media.
As per the information disclosed, HBO's program director, Casey Bloys, attaches great importance to critics and external feedback regarding HBO's work. He meticulously devised a secret team of fake accounts to combat these critics.
The report states that from June 2020 to April 2021, Casey Bloys and HBO's Senior Vice President of Television Production, Kathleen McCaffrey, had at least six interactions, some of which involved using burner accounts on social media to counter criticism.
Furthermore, "Rolling Stone" magazine verified the authenticity of certain information by examining metadata, discovering that some of the language used in responses on Twitter perfectly matched the language in the counter messages received.
