Higashino Keigo's elaborate mystery novel "Kidnap Game" is set to be adapted into a Japanese drama, scheduled to air in early summer 2024.

The era backdrop shifts from the early Heisei period to the Reiwa era, with the detailed cast to be announced soon. The script will be helmed by Yuji Minamino (known for "The Daily Lives of High School Boys" and "The World's Wonder Stories").

Adaptation of Higashino Keigo's Novel

Previously adapted into a film in 2003 starring Naoto Fujiki and Yukie Nakama, the novel also saw a TV series adaptation in 2020 featuring actors such as Ya-wen Chu, Chen-yu Jin, and Le Geng. In 2022, it was remade into a film starring Yuchang Peng, Bingqing Hu, and Lu Yao.

The story revolves around the capable advertising planner Sakuima, whose proposed advertisement campaign for the new car release of Nissho Motors is dismissed as childish by Nissho's Vice President Katsutoshi Katsuragi. In response to the frustration and humiliation, Sakuma impulsively visits Katsuragi's mansion, where he encounters Katsuragi's daughter, Meguri, who has run away from home.

Faced with Meguri's complete lack of intention to return and her plan to take some of Katsuragi's money and run away, Sakuma decides to stage a fake kidnapping, demanding a ransom of 300 million yen from Katsuragi. The two then begin to plan the kidnapping scheme, but little do they know that the situation will take an unexpected turn.
