After the massive box office success of "Joker," director Angel Manuel Soto, who originally intended to direct the origin film for DC supervillain "Bane," had his vision rejected by Warner Bros. As a result, he directed the first Latinx DC superhero movie, "Latin Blue Beetle."

Similar to "Shazam!" and "The Flash," "Latin Blue Beetle" was a legacy project from before the Warner Bros. merger, as Bin Tanaka was replaced by David Zaslav after his departure.

"Latin Blue Beetle" may have come at the expense of the "Bane" origin film. Upon receiving Warner Bros.' call, Soto pitched his idea for directing a DC movie, while the studio was steering the DCEU away from the Snyderverse. According to Den of Geeks, Warner Bros. turned down Soto's proposal for the "Bane" film and instead recommended "Latin Blue Beetle." DC and Warner Bros. executives had planned to release a standalone "Bane" movie years ago, but there had been no news about it since.

During the development of "Latin Blue Beetle," Bin Tanaka was still in charge, so he may have been the one who decided to shift from "Bane" to "Latin Blue Beetle."
