"Oppenheimer" Sets New Box Office Record with a 8.8 Rating on Douban
2023-09-17
According to early estimates from Universal Pictures, Christopher Nolan's "Oppenheimer" has raked in a whopping $912 million in global box office revenue as of Sunday, surpassing the previous biographical film record holder "Bohemian Rhapsody" from 2018 ($910 million).
Simultaneously, the film has also shattered records for World War II-themed movies, significantly surpassing Nolan's 2017 film "Dunkirk" ($524 million).
"Oppenheimer" ranks just behind Nolan's two "The Dark Knight" sequels in global box office performance, with his directorial films now totaling over $5.95 billion, expected to break the $6 billion mark next week. In North America, Nolan's 13 films have accumulated a total box office of $2.38 billion, trailing only behind Steven Spielberg ($4.63 billion with 36 films) and James Cameron ($2.7 billion with 14 films).
This marks the third film in 2023 to cross the $900 million global box office threshold, following "Creation of the Gods" and "Super Mario," outpacing several other well-known IP movies like "Guardians of the Galaxy 3," "Fast & Furious 10," and "Spider-Man: Across the Universe."
The film currently holds a Douban rating of 8.8 with a total of 460,000 ratings.
