According to Japanese media reports, the Kyoto District Court announced today that the initial public trial of Shinji Aoba (44 years old), who was charged with homicide and other crimes in the arson and homicide case of the first studio of Kyoto Animation that killed 36 people in 2019, will be held in September. Held on the 5th, the verdict will be announced on January 25 next year.
The Kyoto Animation arson case is an arson and murder incident that occurred on July 18, 2019 in Kyoto Animation No. 1 Studio, Momoyama Town, Fushimi District, Kyoto City, Kyoto Prefecture, Japan. The incident led to the complete burning of the three-story, 691.02-square-meter building of Kyoto Animation No. 1 Studio, and caused 69 victims, including Shinji Aoba, of whom 36 died and 35 were injured.
It is reported that the incident is considered by the Japanese media as "the deadliest arson incident since the Heisei era".
