Today, the trailer for the new drama "The Sympathizer" starring Robert Downey Jr. and directed by Park Chan-wook was released, and it will be launched on Max/formerly HBO Max next year.

The Sympathizer, based on the Pulitzer-winning novel by Nguyen Thanh Viet, tells the story of a half-French, half-Vietnamese communist spy in Saigon in 1975 during the final days of the Vietnam War and his eventual exile to the American story.
Robert Downey Jr. will play multiple roles, with Sandra Oh playing Sophia Murray, a liberal feminist who, in a love triangle, comes to realize the complexities of her Asian-American identity.
Park Chan-wook and Don McKellar ("Gould's 32 Shorts," "The Red Violin") serve as executive producers, executive producers, and will direct several episodes. Mark Muden ("Utopia," "Black Sails"), Fernando Merrills ("City of God", "The Pope's Succession") and others are also directors.
