"Shocking Captain 2" has been on the big screen for almost a month, with this week's box office only reaching $2.5 million, dropping out of the top ten in the US box office.
Currently, the total US box office for Marvel movies is $80.7 million, slightly higher in international markets at $116.3 million, making the total box office $197 million, marking it as the lowest-grossing film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Usually, movies released in November benefit from the favorable impact of December and the Christmas holiday, but audiences seem hesitant to watch "Shocking Captain 2." Disney has even announced they will no longer disclose partial box office revenues for the film.
In a statement, The Walt Disney Company mentioned, "With the decline in the box office of 'Shocking Captain 2,' we will cease reporting the international/global box office for this film on weekends." Keep in mind that this decision was made after the fourth week of the film's release.
Reflecting on the entire history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, such a situation has never occurred before. Even the second-lowest-grossing film in the Marvel Universe, "The Incredible Hulk" from 2008, successfully remained in the top ten in domestic box office for the first five weeks of its release.
