Netflix's 'The Three-Body Problem' Budget Equals Entire Production of Tencent's Adaptation, Says Screenwriter

Recently, Netflix released a new trailer for its adaptation of 'The Three-Body Problem,' which has garnered attention and sparked discussions among netizens. During an event today, Bai Yizheng, the screenwriter for Tencent's version of 'The Three-Body Problem,' shared his thoughts on Netflix's adaptation and the disparities between domestic and international productions.

He mentioned that the industry faces significant barriers, such as relying on outdated data for analysis and the lack of benchmarks when venturing into new territories, as well as financial and technological challenges. Bai Yizheng stated, 'We are significantly behind in terms of technology. The budget for one episode of Netflix's 'The Three-Body Problem' equals the budget for our entire production. This disparity exists between our industry and theirs, requiring the collective efforts of our generation. The greatness and innovation of 'The Three-Body Problem' stem from Liu Cixin's creation, but the execution process did not meet our expectations.'

According to official information released by Tencent, the production of 'The Three-Body Problem II: The Dark Forest' has also been scheduled. The storyline will encompass the entirety of the second book, 'The Dark Forest,' from the original trilogy. However, filming is expected to take a long time, potentially spanning several years.
