Remember the Ghost Twins from 'The Shining'? They're 53 Years Old Now
2023-05-30
The famous horror film 'The Shining,' released in 1980, is remembered not only for the axe-wielding scenes but also for the haunting presence of the twin sisters.
Without the aid of special effects or terrifying makeup, they appeared in beautiful little dresses, holding hands as they emerged at the end of a corridor, softly singing, 'Come and play with us, Danny, forever and ever and ever,' sending shivers down the audience's spine.
In reality, the Berns twins, portrayed by Lisa and Louise Burns, were only 10 years old when they appeared in the movie. After completing 'The Shining,' they disappeared from the public eye.
It wasn't until the 2014 commemoration of Stanley Kubrick's 50th anniversary of 'Dr. Strangelove' that the sisters reappeared after 34 years. In a 2015 interview with the Daily Mail, they revealed that their dreams of becoming actresses were shattered when they were both rejected by the prestigious Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) in London. Lisa pursued a career in law, while Louise is currently a microbiologist.
Now 53 years old, the Burns twins reside in their hometown of London, traveling the world and serving as special guests at horror film conventions.
Reflecting on their 'infamous' childhood, they said, 'Every day felt like being invited to a very unique party, and we were the youngest and luckiest guests there.
'Stanley wanted us on set every day, so during breaks, we would play with Danny [Lloyd] and Jack [Nicholson].'
'The Shining' remains a significant part of their lives. The twins created a Twitter account under the name 'Shining Grady twins' and registered on the Cameo website in 2020, where users can pay for personalized video messages from celebrities.
They promote themselves as being able to 'celebrate important events in your life with personalized videos - birthdays, weddings, divorces, and bizarre family vacations!'
