Actress Admits to Enormous Pressure from Negative Comments: Was Ellie Miscast?

Bella Ramsey, the actress who portrays Ellie in HBO's live-action series 'The Last of Us,' recently spoke to The Wrap magazine about her relationship with the character.
The 19-year-old film star first discussed the pressure that Ellie brought upon her and the adjustments she made in response. 'Pressure is inevitable, especially when the casting for Ellie was made public. I felt immense pressure, and people's reactions to me were quite complicated,' she said. Ramsey added, 'In fact, most of the feedback I saw was negative. I started doubting if they had chosen the wrong person. This pressure persisted throughout the filming period.'
When it comes to becoming familiar with and embodying the character of Ellie, Ramsey expressed that the process was not particularly difficult because Ellie felt 'natural' to her. She felt a deep connection with Ellie from the start. 'The story and characters in 'The Last of Us' are incredibly remarkable. When I first heard about this project, I thought it was very interesting, especially with its inclusion of LGBTQ+ themes. That's why I wanted to be a part of it,' she stated.
