Director Confirms Fantastic Creatures Series on Hold: Believes Potential for Revival
2023-10-27
The lackluster response to "Fantastic Creatures 3" had many fans worried about the future of the series. It has been a year and a half since the release of the third installment, and there has been little news about the series. However, recently, according to Hollywood Watchman, director David Yates confirmed that the series has been put on hold by Warner Bros. since the release of the third installment, with no further development. However, he believes there is a good chance that it will be revived in the future.
The director stated, "The 'Fantastic Creatures' series is currently parked. We completed 'Fantastic Creatures 3: The Mystery of Dumbledore,' and we are proud of that film. But as it went out into the world, we felt the need to stop, take a break, and look at it with a relaxed attitude."
"At the moment, I have not had in-depth discussions with J.K. Rowling, the producers, and Warner Bros. We are simply in a holding pattern. It gives me the opportunity to work on other projects, such as 'The Deceiver of Pain.' But I am confident that at some point, Newt Scamander's story is likely to return. Who knows? We have not had any substantive discussions."
Yates also mentioned the general perception of the series in the outside world. Originally, there were plans to make five "Fantastic Creatures" films, which was announced by J.K. Rowling before the release of the first film, "Creation of the Gods." However, Yates claimed to be unaware of the plan to make five films. Furthermore, Warner Bros. has not explicitly denied or corrected this statement.
To date, three "Fantastic Creatures" films have been released: "Creation of the Gods" in 2016, with a global box office of $811 million; "Creation of the Gods I: Kingdom of Storms" in 2018, with a global box office of $648 million; and "Fantastic Creatures 3: The Mystery of Dumbledore" in 2022, with a global box office of $404 million.
