Zhang Yimou's New Film "The Twentieth Rule": Starring Ma Li and Lei Jiayin

Zhang Yimou recently spoke with Deadline, confirming the completion of his latest work, "The Twentieth Rule," scheduled for release in February 2024. According to Douban, the film stars Lei Jiayin, Ma Li, Zhao Liying, and Gao Ye.
In the interview, Zhang Yimou shared his creative process: "As long as there are enough outstanding scripts, I can maintain a pace of one film per year. However, reality often falls short, with a scarcity of excellent scripts, forcing me to write my own. This, in turn, requires at least three years to prepare a polished script."
He further added, "In China, there's a saying, 'Look ahead and live a balanced life.' My ideal scenario is to have an excellent script waiting for me while I'm shooting a movie."
Zhang Yimou revealed that he had just completed his new film, "The Twentieth Rule," which will premiere in February 2024: "If I now have to think about what comes after my next film, I may not be able to adhere to the principle of 'looking ahead and living a balanced life.' Currently, we don't have an ideal script, so I think I need to write one for myself."
