Director of "Soul of Tsushima": Learned a lot from "John Wick"
2023-03-24
Filmmaker Chad Stahelski has been busy lately, with John Wick 4 opening this weekend and his highly anticipated Ghost of Tsushima adaptation directing.
During a Q&A after IGN's special screening of John Wick 4 last night, Stahelski was asked what he learned from working on the John Wick franchise that he could bring to Ghost of Tsushima.
"With every John Wick movie, we've tried to make the world a little bigger with characters, sets, and lighting," he explained. "We've learned a lot over the last few years in terms of DI , including digital mid-processing, colorization at the end of production, and things you can do with new technology and the new Alexa camera, it gives us hope to bring cinematography to the level that Ghost of Tsushima should be. "
This will no doubt excite fans of Ghost of Tsushima, a work that has been praised for its stunning world, which IGN once called "set in some of the most strikingly beautiful landscapes in history." Absolutely gorgeous adventure."
The world isn't always bright and colorful, though, and developer SuckerPunch has added "Kurosawa Mode" to the game, which lets players play in black and white tones.
And about whether the "Soul of Tsushima" movie will also launch a Kurosawa model version.
"It's definitely worth considering," quipped Stahelski.
